Tornado Causes Minor Damage South of Chicago

No injuries were reported

Residents of a rural area south of Chicago are cleaning up after a tornado caused minor damage to several homes on Friday.

The tornado touched down late Friday afternoon along the southern edge of Frankfort in Will County.

The National Weather Service says the twister caused minor damage to about 10 homes, tearing off shingles and, in at least one case, blowing off doors.

No injuries were reported.

The weather service was working Saturday to determine how long the tornado was on the ground and estimate its wind strength.

Elsewhere in northeast Illinois, roads were shut because of heavy rain. Some areas saw more than 2 inches per hour at times.
