A new report lists what it deems as the safest towns in the state.
“The Land of Lincoln is the 5th most populous state in the U.S., with over 12.8 million residents and its largest city, Chicago, is the third most populated in the country,” public records database BackgroundChecks.org says on its website.
“While much of Illinois’ population is centered around Chicago, there are many places to live in this beautiful state and we’re going to tell you which ones are the safest," the site wrote.
The site says the list is “based on FBI violent crime stats and propriety BackgroundChecks.org research data.”
Here are the top 15 safest places in Illinois, according to the website.

3. Barrington
4. Hinsdale
5. Buffalo Grove
6. Channahon
7. Deerfield
8. Morton Grove
9. Burr Ridge
10. Wheaton
11. Libertyville
12. Huntley
13. Orland Park
14. La Grange Park
15. Northbrook
