Iconic Drake Hotel Sign Now Uses LEDs

Old neon piping will be recycled, officials said

Part of Chicago’s skyline has going green, but not in color.

The Drake Hotel, a Gold Coast landmark, on Friday switched on a new version of its iconic sign, this time using LED technology.

Gone is the old pink neon light that could be seen across the city’s Lake Shore Drive for 70 years.

Hotel officials said the neon piping that used to adorn the 20-foot sign will be recycled.
