‘The Beach' to Give Residents a Taste of Summer at Navy Pier

The interactive exhibit will open on Jan. 19, and will be free to the public

If you’re already starting to feel the winter blues, then a new art installation in Chicago will soon be here to help you with a cure.

Beginning Jan. 19, “The Beach Chicago” art installation will open at Navy Pier’s Aon Grand Ballroom. The exhibit, put together by Snarkitecture, will transform the 18,000 square foot space into an indoor beach, according to a press release, and will feature deck chairs, lifeguard stations, umbrellas, and inflatables that will mimic a day at the beach.

Over one million plastic spheres will serve as the “lake” in the exhibit, and visitors will be welcomed to swim through it.

Numerous restaurants and retail outlets at Navy Pier will have special offerings to pair with the new exhibit, and visitors to Navy Pier are encouraged to also ride the Centennial Wheel, which is enclosed and heated year round.

The exhibit will be free and open to the public, and will be open from Jan. 19 to Feb. 3, according to Navy Pier.
