Threat at Terre Haute High School Believed a Hoax: Police

No one was injured after multiple police units entered Terre Haute North Vigo High School

Indiana State Police say a threat to a school in Terre Haute, Ind., Friday morning is believed to be a hoax.

No one was injured after multiple police units entered Terre Haute North Vigo High School, some wearing SWAT gear and carrying assault rifles.

Terre Haute Police Chief John Plasse told reporters there was a threat of bombs being inside the school. Plasse said police were "doing a methodical search" of the school and all students were safe.

"We're doing everything we can to make sure everyone is safe inside," he said.

"There is no eminent threat," according to a statement from Vigo County School Corporation. All state, county and city agencies were on site to "ensure the safety and security of students and staff."

Capt. David Bursten told the Associated Press "all indications are that this is a hoax call." Bursten said the school received a call about a possible threat, though he didn't have details on specifics of the threat.

He noted there have been similar threats in the state, and they likely were made by students.

All other schools in the county remained in a Code Yellow, and students were restricted from going outside the building. Normal classroom activity at those schools was ongoing.

While police entered the school, an Indiana State Police sergeant tweeted that there were no injuries, reminding residents to "remain calm and vigilant."
