Teenage Girl Maced, Store Vandalized After Pride Parade

A 16-year-old girl was maced in the face by another teen Sunday in Lake View after the Chicago Pride Parade was cancelled due to heavy thunderstorms.

About 4:10 p.m., the girl was trying to get away from another teenage girl who had been following her at the parade, Chicago police said. She ran into Chicago Comics, 3244 N. Clark St., but was cornered and maced in the face.

Although police gave an account of the incident only involving the two teens, workers at the store said they saw about twenty people storm into the store, corner the teen and began grabbing books and throwing them at her, hitting her and her friends who were trying to shield her from the books and pepper spray, according to a post on the store’s official Facebook page.

The girl was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment and is in good condition, police said.

No one is in custody but the teens involved know each other, police said.
