Family Says Teen Killed Following Facebook Fight

Endia Martin, 14, shot on the 900 block of West Garfield Boulevard

A Chicago couple says their teenaged daughter's fatal shooting Monday was the culmination of a dispute on Facebook with another girl over a boy.

Two teens were shot at about 4:30 p.m. in the 900 block of West Garfield Boulevard. One was shot in the arm and is expected to fully recover. The other girl, 14-year-old Endia Martin, was shot in the back and was pronounced dead at University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital.

The victim's stepfather, Kent Kennedy, pleaded with the person they suspect committed the shooting to come forward.

"The little girl threatened my daughter the day before on Facebook. Today she saw my daughter standing around, and from what I heard she approached her and gunned her down cold blooded," Kennedy said.

Witnesses say Martin was among a group of teens fighting Monday afternoon. Police said one of the teens pulled out a gun and shot Martin in the back.

Detectives said they were questioning several teens about the incident but no arrests had been made by late in the night.

"I'm pleading with the public, because this cannot continue to go down," Kennedy said.

(Correction: A previous version of this article reported the victim's name as India Martin. It is Endia Martin.
