Teen Faces Charges in Fatal Lake County Crash

A 17-year-old is facing charges in connection with a fatal accident in in Lake County that claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman last summer.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, the teen is facing charges of Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Reduce Speed to avoid an accident in connection with the crash, which occurred on Route 45 in Warren Township last July.

Police say that a Kia Soul driven by the teen was traveling northbound on Route 45 when it crossed over the double-yellow center line and into the southbound lanes. The vehicle struck a Toyota Corolla, driven by a Grayslake woman.

The woman was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she later died of her injuries. The boy suffered non-life threatening injuries.

A Lake County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash investigation found that the teen was at-fault in the accident, and the State’s Attorney’s Office has filed charges against him in connection with the crash.

The teen is due to appear in court in Waukegan on April 11 on the charges.
