Chicago police made a total of three arrests in connection to an attempted carjacking near the Magnificent Mile Friday, according to Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

According to Chicago police, a 54-year-old man was unloading his vehicle in the 300 block of East Ohio at approximately 7:14 p.m. when a 15-year-old jumped into the car and tried to flee the scene.

Police said the man was able to get back into the vehicle and pulled the teenage boy out of the car. The man then held the teen until police arrived and put him into custody.

Cell phone footage captured the aftermath of the incident, with the teen boy being held on the ground by the carjacking victim and another vehicle, purportedly driven by the other teens, fleeing the scene as police neared the intersection.

Two more teen boys, ages 14 and 17, were apprehended and placed into custody by police after the incident, according to Guglielmi.

All three boys have history with CPD, but the department will not release their names or provide criminal histories in accordance with juvenile records law.

The suspects used another stolen vehicle in the attempted carjacking, Guglielmi said, and as of Saturday morning detectives were processing that vehicle.
