Obama Team Files for Place on Illinois Ballot

Illinois' primary is March 20

Volunteers for Barack Obama on Friday filed petitions in Springfield to place the president on the primary ballot in Illinois.

Obama for America volunteers likened the experience of delivering signatures to Obama's original presidential announcement.

"In February 2007, from the steps of the old state capital in Springfield, IL Barack Obama announced the start of a historic grassroots campaign to become President," Team Obama said Friday in a statement. They said the signatures underscore "this campaign’s continued commitment to building the strongest grassroots organization in history."

As of Thursday, only Mitt Romney, Ron Paul and Rick Perry had filed to be on the Illinois ballot. The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Illinois' primary is March 20.

Obama volunteers said more than 125 Illinois voters filed petitions to represent the president as delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC.
