Tea Party Leader Highlighted as a John

Just in time for this weekend’s TeaCon in Schaumburg, the gossip website Gawker is dropping the story of Chicago Tea Party leader Steve Stevlic’s encounter with an independent entrepreneur who works free of any government regulation. Or, in less Ayn Rand-ian terms, a hooker. Yes, the head teabagger was caught trying to be a john.

According to Gawker, and according to a Chicago Police Department mug shot accompanying the story, Stevlic, who is married with two children, was arrested for soliciting a prostitute on the West Side of Chicago in June 2010. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office dropped the charges when Stevlic agreed to enter a treatment program for johns called “Unhooked.”

As Gawker also discovered, two months after his arrest, Stevlic took to Twitter to mock Jesse Jackson Jr. for his marital indiscretions: "Jesse Jr. secured Tiger Woods' endorsement today"
and: "Jesse Jr. should use the, 'hey, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree' defense."

...and this takeoff on the Shaft theme song, retweeted from a friend:"

"Who's the congressman who's a sex machine to all the chicks in D.C. restaurants? JESSE!"

When confronted about his behavior yesterday morning, Stevlic told us to direct subsequent questions to his lawyer. He did insist that he'd never tweeted anything about Jackson being a sex machine, which is ridiculous, because, well, see for yourself on the right….Stevlic also told us, guilt or innocence aside, that he feels compassion for Jackson, and we’re sure he was telling the truth about that one, too. We bet he feels tons of compassion, especially now. It’s no fun to have your dirty laundry aired in public. Anyway — Happy TeaCon!

This weekend’s TeaCon, at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Resort, is a gathering of Tea Partiers from around the Midwest, featuring an appearance by presidential candidates Herman Cain  and a dinner keynoted by broadcaster Glenn Beck. Before posing for any photos with Stevlic, they should really be aware of the other photos he’s appeared in.
