November Trial Scheduled for Chicago Terror Suspect

Tahawwur Rana charged in plot to attack Danish newspaper, Mumbai rampage

A judge has set a tentative date of Nov. 1 for the trial of a Chicago businessman charged in a plot to attack a Danish newspaper and the 2008 terrorist rampage that left 166 people dead in the Indian city of Mumbai.

Tahawwur Rana is a Canadian national born in Pakistan who's lived in Chicago for more than a dozen years. Rana has pleaded not guilty to charges that accuse him of using his business to provide cover for a man who's admitted plotting the attack in Denmark and scouting out likely sites for terrorist actions in Mumbai.

Federal prosecutors say Rana knew in advance that a Pakistan-based terrorist group would attack Mumbai.  A federal filing in December revealed that Rana and an accused co-conspirator, David Coleman Headley, were secretly recorded during a car ride prior to the attack on the Indian city
