Suspected Robber Arrested While Attempting Another Armed Robbery

The man was armed with a knife and a .40 caliber semi-automatic hand gun

A man suspected of committing several robberies on the Southwest Side was arrested Friday during an attempted armed robbery of a fast food restaurant.

Area Central detectives were conducting an investigation into a pattern of recent robberies in and around the Clearing neighborhood when the arrest occurred. They observed the suspected robber enter the fast food restaurant in the 6400 block of West 63rd Street and announce a robbery.

Police entered the restaurant and arrested Samuel Ferrara, 23, of the 6600 block of West 59th Street. Ferrara was armed with a knife and a .40 caliber semi-automatic hand gun, police said.

Ferrara was charged with seven felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, six felony counts of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, one felony count of attempted armed robbery with a firearm, two felony counts of theft, two felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon and one misdemeanor for failure to register a firearm.

Ferrara is expected to appear in bond court on Monday.
