Suspect in ‘Violent' Lansing Kidnapping Charged

A suspect taken into custody Sunday in connection with the "violent" kidnapping of a 53-year-old suburban woman last week has been charged, the FBI said in a news release.

Carleous Clay, of Lansing, has been charged with one count of kidnapping, a felony offense, the FBI said. If convicted of the charge, Clay faces a possible sentence of up to life in prison.

The 33-year-old was taken into custody without incident in Holland, Michigan, and is currently being held in the Ottawa County Jail, according to Special Agent Joan Hyde with the FBI.

The woman was abducted from her home in south suburban Lansing and assaulted around midnight Friday before the kidnapper drove her to Munster, Indiana, in her own car, according to a press release from the FBI. While there, the kidnapper used an ATM that caught images of him.

The suspect is believed to have continued traveling in the area, making a stop in Harbor, Indiana, where the woman was located by law enforcement, the FBI statement said.

Law enforcement also found the car abandoned in Holland, according to the FBI.
