Suspect in Custody in Connection With Sexual Assault of Teen Girl

The suspect allegedly walked up behind the girl, threatened her with a gun, and assaulted her in an alley

The man accused of sexually assaulting a teen girl as she walked to school Tuesday has been taken into custody, police say.

The man, whom police did not identify, is accused of assaulting a 14-year-old girl after she got off a Pace bus and began walking toward St. Laurence High School in suburban Burbank on Tuesday morning.

The man allegedly threatened the girl with a gun and forced her into a nearby alley, where he sexually assaulted her.

The teen told school officials about the incident, and they contacted police.

Police did not provide details on the suspect’s capture, but did thank the public for their help in apprehending him.

“I can say video surveillance, the media, and the assistance of the public have all played a part of the investigation and have brought us to where we currently are,” a Burbank police spokesman said in a statement.

Charges have not been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with additional information on the case is encouraged to call Burbank police at 708-924-7300.
