Surveillance Video Captures Intruder on Boat in Diversey Harbor

Surveillance video captured an intruder on a boat docked in Chicago's Diversey Harbor late Tuesday, the boat's owner says - and it's not the first time.

Dean Katsaros shared the surveillance video which shows a person climbing up onto the boat, sitting down and appearing to fiddle with various compartments.

Katsaros said police arrived quickly and the intruder got scared off before he was able to take anything. Chicago police said officers responded to the scene, in the 2600 block of North Cannon Drive, at around 11:20 p.m. but declined to offer more information.

Katsaros said this happened before in 2017. He had previously had items stolen from his dock two weeks in a row, so he installed a camera and less than 24 hours later, he said it captured two would-be thieves in the act.

Surveillance video of that incident showed two men lurking on the back of the boat, before quickly taking off upon realizing that the owners were on board.

Denise Schroeder-Katsaros said at that time, she and Dean were sleeping when they heard their poodles begin to bark at the intruders.

In the most recent incident Tuesday night, the couple was not on the boat but seeing a movie at the time, they said.
