Some Summer Schools Canceled Due to Heat

Chicago Public Schools is cancelling summer classes in 10 non-air-conditioned schools due to high temps forecast for the day

Chicago Public Schools canceled summer classes Thursday as scorching temperatures hit the city.

Schools chief Jean-Claude Brizard ordered the cancelation of classes in 10 non-air-conditioned schools for the day due to "excessive heat."

Those schools include: Altgeld, Attucks, Bennett, Courtenay, Faraday, Gregory, Holden, Penn, Stevenson and Harold Washington.

“Due to reports of excessive heat throughout Chicago tomorrow, we have determined that it is in the best interest of our students and instructional staff to cancel summer school for the day,” Brizard said in a statement.

The heat wave flooding the city is not looking to dampen any time soon with temperatures in the low-to-mid-90s expected through the weekend.

The District plans to monitor the weather conditions and urges student and families to watch for further announcements and cancelations.
