Chicago Suburbs Among America's Best Places to Trick-or-Treat in New Ranking

If your children are looking to get the most out of their trick-or-treating excursion this fall, a pair of Illinois cities are among the best in America for the annual tradition, according to a new ranking.

The ranking, compiled by the financial website SmartAsset, ranked the best places in the United States to go trick-or-treating, and suburban Aurora is the best place in Illinois for gobbling up candy, ranking fourth on the website’s list.

According to the ranking, Aurora has the second-lowest rate of property crime of any city on the list, and is in the top 50 for lowest amount of violent crime.

Other criteria used includes percentage of residents younger than 15, median home value, precipitation rate, and average temperature.

Aurora wasn’t alone in representing Illinois, as Elgin finished in eighth place in the ranking. Joliet finished just outside of the top 10, checking into the 11th spot on the list.

Appleton and Racine, Wisconsin each finished in the top 10 as well, finishing in ninth and tenth places, respectively.

If you want to head out to Aurora for trick-or-treating festivities on Oct. 31, official hours start at 4 p.m. and run through 7:30 p.m. Families can also visit City Hall for treats between 3 and 5 p.m. on Oct. 31.
