Resident Who Arranged Sale on Popular App Robbed in Waukegan

The item being exchanged was not specified

An armed robbery victim in suburban Waukegan says that they were held up at gunpoint after arranging a transaction via a popular mobile app.

The incident occurred Wednesday in the 700 block of North Green Bay Road, according to police. The victim had arranged to sell an item to another individual via the mobile app “LetGo,” and the parties met in a parking lot at the location to complete the transaction.

While there, the other individual pulled out a gun and demanded the victim’s property, and then fled the scene.

The suspect is described as an African-American male in his mid-20’s, standing approximately 5-foot-10 and weighing around 200 pounds. The suspect was last seen fleeing the area on foot.

The Waukegan Police Department is encouraging the public to make use of “safe exchange locations” at the city’s police department when arranging online transactions. Residents are invited to use the police parking lot or the area near the front desk at the department’s headquarters, as both areas are video-recorded.
