A suburban man was arrested after police say he was found driving a “rolling drugstore” on Friday afternoon.
40-year-old Ponciano Martinez of Romeoville was arrested by Riverside police on numerous felony charges after authorities say they found cocaine and cannabis in a vehicle that he was driving.
“Mr. Martinez’s vehicle was a rolling drugstore,” Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel said. “He was on his way back home to Romeoville when he drove through Riverside and by his own admission sold narcotics to whoever would buy them, including brownies laced with cannabis.”
Police say that Martinez was stopped in the 3300 block of Harlem after passing several vehicles in a lane used for parked vehicles. He was unable to produce a driver’s license, which police say has been revoked after four previous DUI convictions.
While police got the car ready to be towed, they searched the vehicle and found illegal narcotics and equipment used for the sale and distribution of those drugs. A small scale, bags of cocaine, cannabis, and other items were found in the search, police said.
A K-9 unit found more drugs, including cannabis brownies, authorities said.
“These kinds of drug dealers are so brazen that they do not even care how they drive or bring attention to themselves,” Weitzel said.
