Suburban Dessert Staple Dairy Dream Robbed

A suburban dessert destination was robbed earlier this week, and the owner of the establishment is asking for the public’s help in finding the thief.

A Libertyville staple since 1961, Dairy Dream has been serving up sprinkles and smiles for nearly 60 years, but the store’s owner is devastated after a robber stole two safes full of rolled coins and cash.

“On one hand, this is a great community and one person can’t destroy that,” Dairy Dream co-owner Justin Synnestvedt said. “But it instills a lack of security.”

Surveillance video captures the thief, who was wearing a green body suit, tip-toeing his way into the shop after it had closed for the night. He went straight for the store’s safe and stole an undisclosed amount of money.

Now, Synnestvedt is tightening security at the restaurant, installing additional cameras, and customers are rallying behind the establishment.

“A small establishment like this, it’s a part of the community,” customer Patrick Hubbard said.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the Libertyville Police Department.
