Chicagoan Studs Terkel, at 96, is hoping to see America's first black president sworn into office.
Born in 1912, Terkel is quoted as saying, "As the Titanic went down, I came up."
Writer Edward Lifson points out that Terkel has done far more than most to advance civil rights in this country. With books and multiple oral histories, and a Pulizer Prize to his name, Terkel has been a recognized voice in Chicago for decades.
Lipson recently spoke to Terkel about the upcoming election.
"I asked Studs," Lifson writes in a recent article, "if he were to interview Obama, what would he ask him?"
