Strong Winds Hammer Northern Illinois, Northwest Indiana

Showers and heavy wins raced through parts of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana late Saturday and early Sunday ahead of a cold front that will bring drier air to the region.

Wind gusts in excess of 50 MPH were recorded in some areas, including a 57 mile per hour gust that was recorded in Chicago early Sunday morning.

Here are some of the highest wind gusts from around the area, according to the National Weather Service:

DuPage Airport: 52 MPH

Kankakee Airport: 54 MPH

Midway Airport: 48 MPH

O’Hare Airport: 46 MPH

Peotone: 48 MPH

Peru Airport: 48 MPH

Pontiac Airport: 49 MPH

Rockford: 47 MPH

Rosemont: 48 MPH

Westmont: 48 MPH

Indiana:

Gary Airport: 54 MPH

Rensselaer Airport: 51 MPH

Valparaiso Airport: 54 MPH

Warmer and drier air is slowly building into the area, with temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s expected over the next several days.
