Strong Storms Roll Through Chicago

Veteran's Day Weekend got off to a wet start on Saturday.

Showers and thunderstorms that rolled through the Chicago area left a few suburbs covered in hail before heading east Saturday afternoon.

Some suburbs like Naperville and Woodridge reported seeing dime-sized hail. Other Chicago area residents reported short heavy down pours accompanied by strong thunder and lightning.

When the storms were first reported, the National Weather Service issued a thunderstorm warning for Southwest Cook and Southeastern DuPage counties, but cancelled the warnings by 12:42 p.m. on Saturday. The storm had weakened, reported the weather service.

There were no reports of injuries or power outages from the storm.

The forecast for Saturday afternoon calls for partly sunny skies with temperatures rising to 69 degrees, said NBC 5 Meteorologist Cheryl Scott.

But don't be too quick to put the umbrella away just yet. Scott said the showers will return by Sunday evening.
