Many Chicago-area residents woke up to damage to the homes and cars Thursday after a round of storms passed through the region.
Around 200 people were displaced from their homes in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side after heavy winds caused the roof of a 90-unit apartment building to collapse Wednesday night.
Around 5:45 p.m., the roof collapsed on the building in the 5000 block of South King Drive, according to Chicago police. No injuries were reported, officials said, and the American Red Cross was on the scene assisting residents.
On Chicago's Northwest Side, several cars were damaged after a massive tree branch snapped and fell in the 3800 block of West Leland Avenue in the Albany Park neighborhood. [[481608381, C]]
No injuries were reported, but the cars remained under the debris early Thursday and police blocked off the street, shutting down Leland between Avers and Hamlin out of precaution. One of the car owners, a woman who drives a Honda Civic that was buried under the branch, said she had a rude awakening.
"I was asleep and my mom was like, 'Oh I heard a loud boom,'" said Rozana Martinez.
"She said, 'I think it's our car.' So I said,'Let me go down there' and yeah, it is our car. We go down and see this," Martinez continued, gesturing to the damage.

A car parked across the street, a Toyota Avalon, was also impacted, leaving the windshield and sunroof shattered.
