Storms in Store for Father's Day

The chance for showers and storms remains in the forecast until Friday

Father’s Day may have started with sunshine and warm temperatures but it will likely end with showers and storms.

Wet weather is expected to move into the Chicago area ahead of a cold front during the afternoon hours Sunday. The storms will start out isolated, but are expected to build heading into the evening.

The area is under a slight risk for severe weather Sunday, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

Storms that do develop could bring wind gusts up to 60 mph, lightning, quarter-sized hail and heavy rain. The rain could become localized at times and pose a threat for flooding.

The rain will slowly make its way through Northwest Indiana, but that won’t be the end of wet weather for the Chicago area this week.

The chance for showers and storms remains in the forecast until Friday.

Sunday’s temperatures were expected to reach into the upper 80s, where they are set to stay for the rest of the week amid the humid, and possibly rainy, weather.
