Youth Soccer Coach Accused of Sex Assault

Darrell J. Stephenson allegedly abused a boy, 12, and may have other victims, officials said

A southwest suburban soccer coach charged with sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy was ordered held on $750,000 bond Saturday.

Darrell J. Stephenson, 24, of Crest Hill, was charged with one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

During a court appearance Saturday morning, he was ordered to have no contact with any minor children should he post the required bond of $75,000, officials said.

Stephenson, a local soccer coach, was taken into custody late Friday by after a week long investigation. Charges against Stephenson stem from an investigation which implicated Stephenson having sexual contact with a 12-year-old boy, officials said.

Sheriff's Police are looking in to the possibility that Stephenson may have had inappropriate contact with other children in the past and are asking parents to speak with their children about any such contact with Stephenson.

Stephenson reportedly has been a youth soccer coach in various local soccer programs including the Frankfort, Plainfield and Joliet areas. He is believed to have been a substitute teacher in the Joliet and Plainfield area, officials said.
