Shooter Dressed as Mailman Claims to Have Package For Victim, Wounds 2 in Far South Side Shooting: Cops

A person dressed as a mailman knocked on the door of a Far South Side residence claiming to have a package for a man in the home before opening fire, wounding two people inside, police said.

A 27-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were struck by gunfire in the 9900 block of South State Street about 2:18 p.m., police said. The man was shot in the chest and was in serious condition. The woman was struck in the lower body and her condition had stabilized, police said. Both victims were taken to Christ hospital.

A spokeswoman for the Chicago Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said Chicago police were the lead agency on the shooting. She said she had no further information about the alleged gunman dressed as a letter carrier.

No one was in custody and police were investigating.
