Description of Suspected Hit-and-Run SUV Released

Driver struck two women at State & Monroe, kept going

Authorities on Wednesday evening released more information about the SUV that allegedly mowed over two women in the busy State Street shopping district a night earlier.

Police say the driver of a silver, metallic Misubishi Montero 4-door SUV ran a red light at State and Monroe streets, struck the women in the crosswalk and kept going.  The vehicle has Illinois license plate number X765013, authorities said.

The victims, Maureen Doyle and her friend, Jean Frederick, were out for dinner before making their way to the symphony.

Doyle doesn't remember what happened after she and her friend crossed the street in the busy State Street shopping district, her brother Richard said earlier in the day.  It wasn't until the ambulances came Doyle realized she'd been hit by a car.

Witnesses said they tried to flag down the car, but the driver never stopped.

Richard Doyle said his sister, 69, has injuries to her shoulder ribs and leg. Both women have been upgraded to fair condition.

"I just hope they turn themselves in," Richard said.

Authorities said a nearby public surveillance camera captured the incident.  The intersection was reopened to traffic and pedestrians shortly before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
