Recycled Starbucks Store Starts Serving Customers on North Side

Store at 6350 North Broadway is made of recycled shipping containers.

Starbucks this week began serving customers from a new store on Chicago's north side that's completely made of recycled shipping containers.

The store, on the corner of North Broadway and West Devon Avenue, serves drive-though and walk-up customers. There is no indoor seating.

The store replaces a hot dog stand and took influence from other shipping-container designs the company has used in Portland and for other pop-up shops and drive-through stores.

The instant coffee shop was fabricated offset and assembled on the site. The Chicago Tribune reported last month that construction was hampered a bit because a truck carrying the pieces broke down and was later delayed by a hostage standoff.

The store had a soft launch on Saturday but a grand opening was scheduled for Tuesday, DNAinfo Chicago reported.
