Cop, Suspect Hurt In St. Charles Officer-Involved Shooting: Officials

A police officer and another person were injured in what officials are calling an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon in west suburban St. Charles.

Officers responded to a burglary call about noon near Voltaire Lane and Peck Road, where a caller said someone armed with a gun broke into his house, according to a statement from St. Charles police.

Officers saw a man running in the area toward a park, police said. While they chased him, he pointed a gun at officers, who fired at him.

The man and an officer were taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, though police didn’t clarify which, if either, had been shot. The man, who police called a suspect, was transferred to a trauma center for additional treatment.

The intersection of Voltaire and Peck remained closed as Illinois State Police investigated the shooting, city officials said.

A spokesman for Illinois State Police said the agency was investigating the shooting at the request of St. Charles police, but did provide additional information.

Charges were pending against the man, police said.
