South Shore Man Charged with First-Degree Attempted Murder After Firing at Cop

According to CPD, several bags of cannabis were recovered from his possession

A South Shore man was charged with attempt of first degree murder after firing at Chicago police officers Friday.

Charles Clark, 20, was arrested Friday on the 7600 block of South Kingston at approximately 5:20 pm.

Officers said the incident started when police observed Clark turning onto Kingston from 76 Street without using his turn signal and when asked, consequently, Clark was unable to provide a driver's license.

Authorities say he then fled on foot from the traffic stop and during the pursuit, Clark pulled a handgun from his waistband, pointed it at the officers, and fired at them.

While being escorted back to the officers' vehicle, officials say Clark attempted to defeat the arrest by kicking his legs and pulling away.

According to CPD, several bags of cannabis were recovered from his possession.

Clark has been charged with two felony counts of attempt first degree murder and one traffic citation for failure to use operator signal.

Clark is expected to appear in court on Sunday.
