South Elgin High School went in to lockdown mode Friday morning after local police received a tip that an armed and intoxicated man was romaing school premises.
"The school went immediately into lockdown and police did a room-by-room sweep but nothing was found," said Tony Sanders, the school's Chief of Staff. The lockdown lasted for about a half hour, Sanders said.
As soon as the school went into lockdown, an emergency notification was sent out to students' families detailing the incident.
Sanders said police have yet to identify the man, but confirmed he was not a student.
Police said there was no longer a threat at the school.
"Everyone is safe and secure," said South Elgin Deputy Police Chief Jerry Krawczyk.
