1 Killed, 1 Injured in South Chicago Crash

One person was killed and another seriously injured when a car crashed into a home in the South Chicago neighborhood early Monday.

The two-vehicle collision took place around 3:30 a.m. in the 8300 block of South Yates Blvd, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Authorities said the driver of a Toyota Corolla ran a red light and struck a Chevy Impala in the intersection before slamming into a garage structure of what appeared to be a home.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality and further details, including the person's age and identity, were not available.

Another person was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the CFD.

It's not clear how or why the car lost control and crashed, officials said.

The intersection remained closed for several hours as police continued to gather evidence.

No one is in custody in connection with the crash and it was unclear if charges would be filed.

The investigation remained ongoing.
