So Long 70s

Winter returns until the weekend

The luck of the Irish is wearing off as far as the weather is concerned.

Record warmth on St. Patrick’s Day will move out of the Chicago area Wednesday and the mercury is expected to drop below freezing before the weekend.

On Tuesday, the 74-degree high recorded at O’Hare Airport just after 2 p.m. ties the pervious high recorded March 17, 1894, according to the National Weather Service.

The warm air is expected to leave the Chicago area Wednesday, when temperatures are only expected to reach 54 degrees under possibly rainy skies.

Temperatures are expected to fall as low as 32 degrees early Thursday and 26 degrees early Friday, the weather service said.

Weekend temperatures are expected to rebound this weekend, with highs in the mid-50s and lows in the mid-30s, the weather service said.
