Snow on Friday could make this weekend's brutally cold temperatures feel even worse, forecasters say.
Accumulating snow is expected to come to an end Friday evening, ushering in even colder temperatures for New Year's Eve weekend.
That snowfall, however, will likely reflect the sun's rays, rather than letting them warm up the ground and radiate back into the air, said NBC 5 meteorologist Pete Sack. The reflection, combined with gusting winds, will make an already dangerously cold weekend feel even worse.
A Winter Weather Advisory issued for most of northeast Illinois and parts of northwest Indiana will come to an end at midnight Saturday morning.

The highest totals are expected south of Interstate 80, though much of the Chicago area is expected to see between 2 and 4 inches. Areas far north of the city may only see between 1 and 2 inches.

A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, DeKalb and Kane counties beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday and continuing until 1 p.m. The advisory warns of wind from 15 to 25 below zero.
