Ahead of a series of Chicago-area snow systems that could bring some of the largest snowfall totals of the season, a Winter Weather Advisory for Cook County has been issued, starting at midnight and extending until 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
The systems are expected to move in over the next several days, bringing the potential for several inches of accumulation. Through the overnight hours on Saturday and into Sunday, forecasters are expecting between two to four inches of snow to fall across Cook County and into northwest Indiana.
A Winter Weather Advisory will begin at 9 p.m. Saturday night in McHenry and Lake counties in Illinois, and will last until noon Central time on Sunday afternoon. Lake County and Porter County in Indiana will be under a Winter Weather Advisory beginning at midnight Saturday night and ending at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Temperature highs are expected to top out in the upper-20s Sunday as a cold front approaches with more light snow coupled with lake-effect snow showers into the evening.
At the end of the two days, totals will likely be between 1 and 3 inches inland and 2 and 4 inches along the lakefront.

Monday is expected to be partly sunny and again could see the chance for light snow during the afternoon and evening hours, as well as during the day Tuesday, with even more accumulations possible.
It remains unclear exactly how much snow these waves will dump on the Chicago area, but NBC 5 Storm Team meteorologists advise watching forecasts throughout the weekend and next week as conditions develop.
