Smash-and-Grab Robberies Reported on North Side

The four robberies have taken place in the Ravenswood and Uptown neighborhoods

Chicago police have issued a public alert after a series of businesses have been robbed in smash-and-grab thefts in recent days.

According to police, four such robberies have taken place between Wednesday and Saturday. In the thefts, which have occurred in the Ravenswood and Uptown neighborhoods on the North Side, the thieves broke out a glass door with a piece of concrete or brick, and then smashed cash registers on the floor to steal money from the businesses.

The thefts mostly occurred in the early morning hours, and no suspect description is available.

The thefts have occurred:

  • 1900 block of West Lawrence Ave. on Nov. 28 at 3:15 a.m.
  • 4800 block of North Broadway Street on Nov. 29 at 4 a.m.
  • 5000 block of North Broadway Street on Nov. 30 at 11 p.m.
  • 1000 block of Argyle Street at 3:42 a.m.

Anyone with information on the thefts is encouraged to call Area North Detectives, or to call 911 if they witness a theft.
