Metra officials are urging riders to be aware of potential changes to their evening commute on Wednesday after a small diesel fire at Chicago’s Union Station.
The fire, which officials said occurred on track 5 or 7 at the station on Wednesday afternoon, was quickly put out by firefighters, but a damage assessment is still being conducted on the affected train lines, according to authorities.
Officials say that the affected lines will not be available until they are cleared by firefighters, leading to potential changes to boarding platforms for evening commuters.
The agency says that no trains have been canceled as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, but with tracks 5 and 7 out of service, riders will need to pay close attention to their boarding assignments on the Milwaukee District and North Central Service lines.
