Skokie Police Investigate Niles North Football Team Hazing Allegations

All varsity football operations were suspended until further notice Monday after a north suburban high school district announced a police investigation into hazing allegations at the school, officials said.

Niles North principal James Edwards made the announcement in a letter to parents, which was followed by an official statement from the district.

“The safety and security of our students is our top priority,” said Niles North Principal James Edwards. “We have zero tolerance of hazing or even the threat of it. Because this is a matter that involves student confidentiality, we ask that our students and families be patient as the investigation unfolds.”

The district said officials took the action over the weekend based on “reports received.”

“Even though this will be a difficult time for our school, I believe that if we pull together and work to act upon the principle that we treat each other with the respect and dignity we all deserve, Niles North will become an even stronger school community,” Edwards said.

The school district said it was working in conjunction with Skokie police.
