Six Flags Great America's New Roller Coaster Opens Thursday

Six Flags Great America is ready to debut its brand new, record-breaking attraction.

The Maxx Force roller coaster will open to the public on the Fourth of July, the north suburban amusement park said, adding that it breaks three separate records.

With an air-powered launching system to propel riders from 0 to 78 miles per hour in under two seconds, the Maxx Force is the fastest launch coaster in North America, Six Flags said in a statement announcing the ride last fall.

And at 175 feet above the ground, it also features the highest double inversion in the world - as well as the fastest inversion, with riders zooming through a corked roll at 60 miles per hour, according to the park.

Maxx Force has a total of five inversions, Six Flags said, with riders in trains modeled after Formula One racing cars.

It's the Gurnee park's 17th roller coaster, according to Six Flags, and is located in the park's Hometown Square area.
