Six Flags Great America Extending Season Into the Holidays for 1st Time

The addition is a first in Six Flags Great America’s 42-year history, the park said

The season at Six Flags Great America is about to kick off, but just days before the gates open, the amusement park made a big new announcement.

The popular Gurnee park revealed plans to debut its new Holiday in the Park this November, extending its season through the holiday season.

The addition is a first in Six Flags Great America’s 42-year history, the park said.

It will feature holiday light displays with more than one million LED lights, a tree-lighting ceremony, coasters and attractions, holiday shows, fire pits for roasting marshmallows and photo ops with Santa and Mrs. Claus, according to organizers.

Six Flags said the event will be the “largest holiday celebration in the region and promises to become a time-honored tradition.”

“Six Flags is creating a new season of thrills as the park is transformed into a winter wonderland with a million dazzling lights and all the magical sights, sounds and tastes of the holidays,” said Park President, Hank Salemi. “We are excited to extend our operating calendar and make Gurnee the premier place to spend the holiday season.”

The event begins Nov. 23 and runs on weekends through Sunday Dec. 23 and daily from Dec. 26-31. It is included in 2018 season passes and memberships.
