Singletary, Toub Make Bears’ Interview List

There are 13 men on the Bears' interview list for the team's head coaching opening. Two of the latest adds are names very familiar to Bears fans. Special teams coordinator Dave Toub and Bears great Mike Singletary are both on it.

The Chicago Tribune reports Toub has already interviewed. Toub's special teams unit has ranked in the top-10 in the league eight times in the last nine seasons. They are known for aggressive, creative play, and punishing hits. Several stars on defense also pitch in on special teams, which shows how respected Toub and his schemes are. Toub has also been the only coach for Devin Hester during his record-breaking career as a return man. If Bears general manager Phil Emery wants to keep players happy above all else, he'll take a serious look at Toub.

Singletary is a wild card. A Hall-of-Fame linebacker for the Bears, he's the only man on the list to come from a mostly defensive background. Singletary coached the 49ers and ended with a record of 18-22 and no post-season appearances. Now, he's serving as linebackers coach for the Vikings. Since the Bears want to focus on offense, it would be really surprising to see Singletary make the short list.

But not every name on the list will be considered for the job. Remember that Emery has been with the Bears for less than a year. He's still trying to figure out what the rest of the league thinks of the organization, and these interviews will help with that.
