Shots Fired at Police After Chase, Crash on Chicago's South Side

Shots were fired at police following a chase and crash on Chicago's South Side early Tuesday, officials said.

Around 12 a.m., a trooper on patrol came across a suspect's vehicle headed southbound at I-94 and West 79th Street, according to Illinois State Police.

The trooper checked the license place and found that the vehicle was wanted for fleeing the scene of a homicide in suburban Maywood, ISP said.

Authorities said the trooper called for backup and chased the vehicle, trying to get it to stop near the intersection of I-57 and West 111th Street.

The driver fled to W 127th Street and South Parnell Avenue in the West Pullman neighborhood and crashed, according to police.

The driver and passenger exited the car and shots were fired towards police, ISP said.

The two suspects then fled the scene, leaving the car behind, authorities said. No one was in custody in connection with the incident and police continued to investigate.
