Several Chicago suburbs were named among the 100 safest cities in America, according to a recent report.
The rankings were released by neighborhood search engine NeighborhoodScout. Researchers based their findings on the total number of property and violent crimes per 1,000 residents and ranked cities with 25,000 people or more, according to the report. Crime statistics were compiled using crime data from all 18,000 law enforcement agencies in America.
Three of Chicago's northwest suburbs made NeighborhoodScouts top 20:
Lake in the Hills ranked highest at no. 6, followed by Bartlett at no. 8, and Buffalo Grove in 18th place, according to the study.
Each city scored 85 or higher out of 100 on the study’s crime index scale, with 100 being the safest. In all, the report named 17 Illinois cities on the list:

37. Glenview
38. Mundelein
56. Hanover Park
59. Palatine
66. Arlington Heights
69. Carol Stream
74. Northbrook
84. Mount Prospect

The title of safest city in America went to Ridgefield, Connecticut which scored 97 out of 100 on the crime index, according to the analysis.
