Several Rescued from Stuck Elevator After Fire in High-Rise

An electrical fire broke out in a Near North Side high-rise leaving several people temporarily stuck in an elevator

Several people had to be rescued from an elevator that became stuck Sunday afternoon after a fire started in a high-rise building on the Near North Side.

Firefighters responded to the electrical fire at about 1 p.m. on the 10th floor of the building in the 1300 block of North Lake Shore Drive, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight said.

No one was injured, but “several people” were temporarily trapped in an elevator in the building, Knight said.

As of 1:50 p.m., the fire had been extinguished and everyone had been released from the elevator, Knight said.
