At least 20 people were displaced by a fire on Chicago's West Side early Thursday.
The fire took place at around 12 a.m. at the intersection of North Pine Avenue and West Augusta Blvd in the city's South Austin neighborhood.
It broke out in a three-story, multi-unit building, reportedly forcing 13 adults and seven children out of their homes.
A woman who lives in the building said she did not recall hearing smoke alarms but woke up and saw the flames - a terrifying sight as she relies on an oxygen tank.
"I was off-and-on sleeping and watching television and I heard something popping and I thought maybe someone was shooting in the back of the alley or something," said Sylvella Butler.
"Then I see a bright light through my bedroom window so I got out of the bed and I pull the curtain back and I look and I see a fire on the first floor on the other side. I started grabbing stuff and getting out of there."
The cause of the fire remained unclear and an investigation was ongoing.
