Second City will reopen their Mainstage Theater on Thursday after a three-alarm fire destroyed its offices last month, the theater company announced.
The first performance will be a private show for the Chicago Fire Department.
Four firefighters and at least one other person suffered injuries from the thick black smoke that billowed near Wells Street and North Avenue, the fire department has said. The fire started at a restaurant next door, but flames quickly traveled upwards through the restaurant's vents.
The theaters remained in good condition following the blaze, but carpet, wiring and lighting had to be replaced, Second City CEO Andrew Alexander said, according to The Associated Press.
“We are so excited to be headed back to Old Town to begin performances this week,” Alexander said in a statement. “We are grateful for everyone’s support and assistance.”
The Second City theater launched the careers of many comedians and actors, including John Belushi, Tina Fey and Bill Murray.
The theater company previosly said there would be no shows until Sunday. They will continue with their regular performance schedule through the weekend.
