Sears Breaks World Record For Costumed Supermen

More than 500 employees dress up in Superman costumes at company headquarters

It's safe to say Hoffman Estates was the safest city in Illinois Wednesday, if not the world.

That's because the Sears headquarters broke a Guinness World Record for the largest number of people assembled in one place dressed as Superman by gathering 566 employees dressed as the Man of Steel.

The feat broke the record of 437 held by a Canadian company, and a Guinness Book of World Records representative was on hand to confirm it.

The costumes are the official, never-before-seen versions for the new movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters later this month.

Sears quest to break the record was not just a random idea. The store has entered into a retail partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures in advance of the Superman movie, and the company's brand shows up in the movie several times.
