Theo Epstein Provides Update on Kyle Schwarber

Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber had two excellent games at the plate for the team in the opening days of the World Series, but will he be able to play in the field when the series shifts to Wrigley on Friday?

On Thursday afternoon, Cubs President Theo Epstein provided an update on Schwarber's condition, and it's not news that Cubs fans will want to hear.

According to Epstein, Schwarber still has not been medically cleared to play the field, and because of that he will only be available as a pinch hitter for the Cubs during the next three games of the World Series.

The news is a bit of a blow to a Cubs offense that enjoyed having Schwarber back in the mix, as he drove in a pair of runs and scored a run in the team's Game 2 win over the Cleveland Indians.

Schwarber's return to the lineup in any capacity was a big surprise, as he suffered a torn ACL in early April in a game in Arizona. After a lengthy rehab, Schwarber was able to fill the designated hitter role in the first two games of the World Series, with numerous base hits and two RBI to his credit in those contests.
